Cracked Manhole Cover & Frame Replacement — Sheffield
Called out to replace a cracked manhole cover and frame in Sheffield after a delivery van parked over it. Upgraded to a B125-rated (12.5-tonne) cover and frame, finished with a durable 9-inch concrete border suitable for vehicle traffic.
The Challenge
We were called out to a property in Sheffield after a delivery driver parked their van over an old cast iron manhole cover, cracking the cover and damaging the frame. A cracked cover is a real safety hazard — it can give way under weight, creating a trip and fall risk, or let a vehicle break through — so it needed replacing promptly with something rated for the traffic it would actually see.
Our Solution
The damaged manhole cover and frame were carefully removed and the chamber opening prepared. We then installed a new B125-rated cover and frame — rated for loads up to 12.5 tonnes, the correct specification for driveways and areas with vehicle movements. To complete the installation, the surround was finished with a durable 9-inch concrete border, bedding the frame solidly and protecting the edges of the opening.
The Result
A strong, level, long-lasting installation properly rated for vehicle traffic — no more cracked cover, no more safety risk. The concrete border gives the frame a solid seating that will stand up to vans and cars driving over it for years to come, and the area was left clean and tidy on completion.
